Privacy Policy
Persona is a dating app, so the trust you place in us is the product. This policy explains — in plain terms — what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the control you have. We collect as little as we can, we don't sell your data, and we don't track you across other apps.
We collect what's needed to run a dating service, use AI to power your avatar and matches, keep sensitive media private, never sell your data, and let you export or permanently delete everything from inside the app. The sections below cover the details, including your rights under GDPR, California's CCPA/CPRA, and biometric-privacy laws.
This Privacy Policy explains what information Persona ("Persona", "we", "us") collects through the Persona mobile app and this website, how we use it, and the choices and rights you have. By using Persona you agree to this policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
1. Information we collect
To operate a dating service we collect the following categories of personal information:

2. How we use your information
To build your avatar, find good matches, keep you safe, and improve the app — nothing else.
- Create your account and AI avatar, and find and suggest compatible matches.
- Enable chat, verification, notifications, and other features you use.
- Keep Persona safe — screening content, reviewing reports, and enforcing our Terms and Community Guidelines.
- Operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Service.
- Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.
3. AI processing
Persona is an AI-avatar app. To create your avatar and generate conversations, your setup answers and messages are processed by artificial-intelligence systems, including trusted third-party AI providers acting on our behalf under contract. Content sent for AI processing is not used to train third-party models, and providers may only use it to deliver the feature to you. We disclose this AI processing so your consent to it is informed.
4. How we share it
We do not sell your personal data. We share information only with service providers that help us run Persona, under agreements that require them to protect it and limit their use of it to providing their service to us:

Other users see the profile information, photos, and messages you choose to share with them. We may also disclose information where required by law, to enforce our Terms, or to protect the rights and safety of our users and the public (see our Law Enforcement Guidelines).
5. Biometric data & verification
If you choose to get verified, we collect a selfie that is used to confirm you are a real, live person. Depending on the method, this may involve a facial scan or face geometry, which is biometric information under laws such as the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA).
- Purpose: solely to confirm you are a real person and eligible to use Persona. It is never shown on your profile and never used for advertising, marketing, or use-based data mining.
- Consent: verification is optional. Before we collect any biometric data, we obtain your explicit consent at the verification step.
- Retention & destruction: we retain verification media only as long as needed to complete verification and satisfy our safety and legal obligations, and we permanently destroy it when that purpose is met or when you delete your account, whichever comes first.
- No sale or disclosure: we do not sell, lease, or disclose your biometric data, except to the verification processor acting on our behalf or as required by law.
6. Location
We use coarse, city-level location to show you people nearby. We do not collect precise GPS location. Location permission is optional and controlled in your device settings.
7. Tracking & advertising
Persona does not track you across other companies' apps or websites, does not use advertising identifiers, and does not show third-party ads. We will not use App Tracking Transparency-gated tracking unless you explicitly permit it. Data obtained through the camera or photo APIs for verification is never used for marketing or use-based data mining.
8. Retention & deletion
You can permanently delete your account and data any time in the app → You tab → Delete Account. See how to delete your account.
We keep your information while your account is active. When you delete your account we delete your personal data — including content you shared with others — except limited records we must retain to comply with law, resolve disputes, or enforce our Terms. You may also request a copy of your data (export) from within the app.
9. Your rights in the EEA & UK (GDPR)
If you are in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, the controller of your data is Persona. Our legal bases for processing are:
- Contract — to provide the Service you signed up for.
- Consent — for special-category data (including your sexual orientation and biometric verification) and optional features; you may withdraw consent at any time.
- Legitimate interests — to keep Persona safe, secure, and functioning, balanced against your rights.
- Legal obligation — to comply with applicable law.
You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, and port your data, to object to certain processing, and to withdraw consent. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. To exercise these rights, email privacy@persona-us.com (or our Data Protection contact at dpo@persona-us.com). Where we transfer data outside the EEA/UK, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
10. Your California rights (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know/access, delete, and correct your personal information, to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, and to limit the use of sensitive personal information — and you will not be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
We do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA/CPRA. Persona collects the categories of personal information described in Section 1, including sensitive personal information (sexual orientation and biometric data), which we use only to provide the Service and never to infer characteristics for advertising. 11. Consumer health data
Some information you provide (such as data relating to your sexual orientation or reproductive intentions) may be considered consumer health data under laws like Washington's My Health My Data Act. We handle this data as described in our dedicated Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy.
12. International transfers
We operate in the United States and may process and store your information there and in other countries where our service providers operate. When we transfer data internationally, we use appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) to protect it.
13. Age & children
Persona is strictly for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18 and will delete any such account. See our Terms for age-eligibility details.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We'll post the updated version here with a new effective date and, for material changes, provide additional notice. Your continued use of Persona after an update means you accept the revised policy.
