Safety Center
Dating should feel exciting, not risky. Persona is built to protect you — with verification, screening, and AI that works quietly in the background — but a few habits keep you even safer. Here's everything worth knowing, plus real help if you ever need it.
Call your local emergency number (911 in the US) right away. To report someone on Persona, open their chat → menu → Report, or email safety@persona-us.com. We review reports and act — typically within 24 hours.
Staying safe online
Never send money or gift cards. Keep chats on Persona until you trust someone. Don't share your address, financial details, or passwords. Be wary of anyone who moves fast or won't video-call.
Meeting safely
Meet in a public place the first few times. Tell a friend where you'll be and when. Arrange your own transport there and back. Stay sober enough to stay in control, and trust your gut — leave if anything feels off.
Consent & wellbeing
Consent is ongoing and can be withdrawn anytime. No one is owed anything for a date, a gift, or a conversation. Look after your sexual health and take relationships at your own pace.
Know the common scams
Most harm on dating apps comes from a handful of predictable playbooks. If you can name them, you can spot them.
- Happy to video-call and meet locally
- Moves at a comfortable pace
- Consistent story, real-time photos
- Respects a "no" the first time
- Asks for money, crypto, or gift cards
- Professes love within days
- Always has an excuse not to meet or video
- Pushes you to move to another app fast
- Romance scams: a fast, intense connection that leads to a request for money or "help." Never send funds to someone you haven't met.
- Sextortion: someone pressures you into intimate photos, then threatens to share them. Don't pay and don't panic — stop contact, keep evidence, report to us and to authorities.
- Catfishing / fake profiles: stolen photos and invented identities. Ask to video-call; our verification and AI checks help, but stay alert.
- Investment / "pig-butchering": a match who steers talk toward a "can't-miss" investment. It's a scam.
How Persona protects you
Safety isn't only your job — it's built into the product.
- 18+ only, enforced at signup and on our servers.
- Selfie verification confirms real people; the verified badge can't be forged from the app.
- Content screening: photos and messages are automatically checked for objectionable content before they reach anyone.
- One-tap report & block on any message, photo, or person — we act on objectionable content and abusive users, typically within 24 hours.
- Private by design: verification selfies and chat media are stored privately and served through short-lived links. See our Security page.
Support resources (US)
